Lana Batts Named Chairman of TCG (April 18, 2006)

Industry veteran to lead TCG into truckload sector

ROCKVILLE, MD – Transportation Costing Group® (TCG®), specialists in Profitability Management ToolsSM and activity-based cost analysis for the transportation industry, today announced that Lana Batts will serve as the Company’s Chairman.   A thirty-year veteran of the trucking industry, and former president of the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) from 1994 - 2000, Batts is expected to lead the Company’s drive into the truckload sector.

Mrs. Batts replaces Dr. Jerold Muskin, professor of Transportation at Drexel University (retired), who announced his retirement as chairman of the board in March.   Dr. Muskin co-founded TCG in 1982, and had served as chariman of the board for twenty-four years.   He has accepted the new position, Chairman Emeritus, and will continue serving on the TCG board of directors.

TCG initially provided Less Than Truckload (LTL) carriers with activity-based individual shipment cost models to help them function successfully in the then newly deregulated trucking environment.   Since then, the TCG product line has grown to include a variety of profitability management tools for LTL and Truckload carriers alike.

“We started this company with the intention of assisting LTL carriers to become more profitable,” stated Ken Manning, president of TCG.   “We recently expanded our product line to include truckload carriers and Lana’s experience in that market sector is exactly what we need to give this new product the same chance at being as successful as our less-than-truckload product.   It’s an exciting time for us and we are pleased to have Lana on board.”

“I am honored to serve as the Chairman of TCG,” said Batts. “I understand how important it is for carriers to have accurate cost information that goes beyond the historical assumption that all costs are mileage generated.   TCG is leading the way for carriers to understand where their costs are generated and to determine which loads, lanes, and customers are truly profitable.”

Batts was raised in a trucking family in Billings, Montana.   From 1974 to 1992 she served as the senior vice president of government affairs for the American Trucking Associations.   She became president of the Truckload Carriers Association in 1994 and remained there until 2000.   She is currently managing partner in Transport Capital Partners, LLC, (formerly known as Larsen, Batts, Welborn & Co.), a mergers and acquisition firm that specializes in the trucking industry.   Batts holds a variety of trucking-related awards and honors; including the ATA’s highest award – the S. Earl Dove award.
