Sort & Segregate Freight (#9, Summer 1995)

The Cost Information System provides dock handling codes at each freight terminal (origin, destination and intermediates) to describe the cross-dock handling required.  In addition to several "normal" cross dock handling types, there are three codes for situations where additional work is performed on the dock to sort and segregate the freight.

Each of the codes, 7 through 9, works in conjunction with the Dock Adjustment and the P&D Stop Weight items for entry of override minutes (Dock Adjust) for the entire load (Stop Weight).  In fact, it is the time reflected by the override minutes which defines the code to be used, as outlined in the table below:

If the Override Minutes Reflect: Use Code: CIS Cost Will Be:
Only the sort and segregation of freight, excluding both the trailer strip and subsequent stack time.

7

An allocation of the override minutes, based on stop weight, plus a cross dock handling from CIS performance data.
The full cross dock handling time, including strip, sort and segregate, and subsequent stack in the outbound trailer.

8

An allocation of the override minutes, based on weight.

The strip, sort and segregation time, but not the subsequent loading into outbound or delivery trailers.

9

An allocation of the override minutes, based on stop weight, plus a floor-to-trailer handling from CIS performance data.
The sort and segregation and stack time, but not the unloading from inbound or pickup trailers.

9

An allocation of the overtime minutes, based on stop weigh, plus a trailer-to-floor handling from the CIS performance data.
