A shipment file can be created either from manual entry, by read-in of a file using Porter, or from a Traffic/CIS extract. In situations where a shipment file needs to be modified, the "save as" capability can be used to duplicate the file under another name prior to making further adjustments.
Unlike some software where the entire file is loaded into PC memory when it is being modified, and can then be saved under an alternate name after modifications are made, the CIS shipment file data is saved element by element. Because of this, the Save As option can only be used prior to editing the file as follows:
· In the LTL system, click on File (or Alt-F), then on Edit Shipment File, and then on Edit Elements (or Add Elements if you wish to add to the new file).
· On the shipment file selection window, scroll to and single click on the desired file name, so it appears on the file name entry line. (you can type-in the file name as well, which expresses the cursor to the closest spelling, but do not press enter.)
· Click on the Save As New File box.
· A "save as" window will open, for entry of a new file name.
· After entering a new name, click OK (Alt-O), and the original selected file will be copied to the new name.
The system will then display the comments for any changes and proceed into the selected edit mode. Any changes then made will apply only to the new file, leaving the original intact
