CIS Input: Dock Adjustment (#49, Spring 2001)

The cost of cross dock handling at origin, destination or any intermediate terminals can be adjusted, when costing a particular shipment, by entering either an adjustment ratio for the Dock Adjust item, or the actual handling minutes.

The default for this item is 1.  Zero suppresses the cost.

Data entry depends on the Dock Handling code:

When the Dock Handling code is 2, for a regular cross dock handling, or 1 for a partial dock handling, then the Dock Adjust entry of less than 5 is read as a ratio:

·        Entering a 1.1 would increase the cost by 10 percent.

·        Entering a .9 would decrease the cost by 10 percent.

An entry of 5 or greater is read as a minutes override:

     ·        Entering a 10 would cause the shipment to be costed as requiring ten minutes to handle across the dock at that terminal, overriding the dock minutes which the CIS would calculate based on the shipment characteristics and particular dock where the activity occurs.

When the Dock Handling code is 4 or 5 for handling and storage, generally used for appointment freight, and storage unit cost is set up in CIS, then storage days should be entered for the Dock Adjust.

When the Dock Handling code is 7, 8 or 9, for sort and segregate, then total minutes for the entire stop weight should be entered, as prompted on the instruction line.
