Traffic/CIS, the monthly costing of all freight, makes use of a customer profile to enhance shipment data for additional service and freight characteristics not available in the shipment data itself. The Traffic/CIS database builder contains a routine to read through all records in the customer profile, subjecting them to a series of edits.
Edit checks performed by the routine include:
Traffic/CIS system supervisors should run the Customer Profile Edit Routine on a regular basis. In addition to providing a review of all data in the customer profile, producing error and warning messages for data gaps and parameter checks, this program also creates a new primary index on the server, making use more efficient.
The Customer Profile software operates off of the primary index on the server and a much smaller secondary index, for additions, on the workstation. The entry software will work most efficiently if the primary customer profile index is updated on a regular basis, which, again, is done when the edit routine is run. Since the customer profile is a shared entry file, the edit routine must be run when users are off of the system.
