The CIS Grand Total Report, produced for each shipment file processed with the Cost Information System,  provides analysis of the costed file.  The report has seven major sections:

• Cost results by activity and direct / overhead
• Statistics
• Average cost per shipment*
• Average time per shipment*
• Subtotals by weight group using actual weight*
• Interline breakdown*
• Error / warning messages

Items with an asterisk may be included / omitted using the file options System Settings and then Grand Total Report.

In addition to the cost results themselves, various averages and summaries are developed with some exceptions and defaults as outlined below:

• Overall Descriptions - one or more lines may appear noting origin or destination, packaging, and P&D and dock service, but only if constant for the entire file.

• Average Weight per Pickup and per Delivery - excludes pickups or deliveries via an agent, or otherwise not handled by your company so as to give an indication of the volumes at stop where company drivers are performing the loading and unloading.  The average is calculated on a per stop basis.

• Average Weight per Shipping Unit - uses calculated units if none are entered.  It also uses the loose pieces average for shipments with a packaging code representing freight which changes packaging during transit (codes 4 through 8).

• Average Minutes at Stop - corresponds to average stop weight calculations in that shipments handled via a cartage agent or having no pickup or no delivery are excluded from this average.

• Average Density - includes shipments with no density stated, in which case the company-wide average freight density, from the average load/cube defaults, is used in calculating this average.

• Average Linehaul Miles - This average is weighted by shipment cube. It includes shipments with no linehaul (same terminal for origin and destination)

• Average Time per Shipment - the P&D averages exclude shipments handled by cartage agents instead of company drivers, and exclude shipments with no pick-up or no delivery.

This report is the first to appear when a file having more than one shipment is costed.  A right side  scroll bar allows the entire report to be viewed on-screen.  It can also be accessed by selecting the option Grand Totals under both View Results and Print Results menus.
