Managing Multiple Cost Profiles (#22, Fall 1998)
The CIS can have separate cost profiles, each stored in a unique
folder under \CIS, to be used for different situations. One
profile could reflect actual costs and performance for analyzing current
business, while
another might reflect projected costs and target performance, for
analyzing prospective business. Traffic/CIS requires a profile
with monthly unit costs only.
Managing multiple profiles can be
confusing. Some guidelines are outlined below:
- Always make note of the profile displayed on the profile item in CIS Maintenance, as that is the profile which will be affected by any
maintenance done with these routines.
- Additional profiles can be created via CIS Profile Maintenance under the
items System Paths or Profile. System Paths has a
"create new alternate profile" button, and Profile's action menu includes
the options Select/Edit Alternate Profile, which has a "new profile"
button. In both cases, a new folder name must be entered for the cost
profile, with an option for a separate P&D run data (peddle) folder as well.
- Keep labels, in the profile menu file PROFILE.CIS, up to date. This
is done when updating unit costs under the Profile item Unit Cost but
can also be done by just editing that file.
- Major changes, such as adding a new terminal, can either be made to each
profile, or can be made to a designated "main" profile.
Then, when changing profiles to load new unit costs to any other profiles, use the
copy option that appears to copy the main profile into the other profile directory prior to
installing the revised unit costs.
- When using the cost software, the cost profile can be changed using the
File option Cost Profile, which displays all profile
titles (and folders) for selection. Cost results always display the
cost profile used.
Be aware that some support files (load
plan, extra costs and location codes) are not affected by this path and
require other steps to have that data separated for different
cost models. Contact TCG
if such separate treatment is needed.
