Replace Data Button (#41, Summer 2000)
When opening an existing CIS
shipment file for edit, a “modify template” prompt appears with a Yes/No
option. A “yes” response brings up the Template, which allows global
changes to the file when data is typed-in and enter is pressed. The
Template, in edit mode, also has a Replace Data button, active on the
upper tool bar, to only make changes to shipments with data falling into
certain ranges. The button works as follows:
-
On the Template, in the edit mode, click on the item to be used to limit
the modification.
-
Click on the “Magic Wand” Replace Data button, now active on the upper tool
bar, to open the Replace Data window.
-
Complete the items in the window:
|
From |
_______________ |
|
To |
_______________ |
|
Replace Field |
_______________ |
|
Replace With |
_______________ |
- Click “Ok,” and the system
will read through the entire shipment file, changing only those records with
entries falling within the specified from / to range. It will finish by
reporting the number of records which were changed.
Some examples:
- In
a file of shipments with varying densities, the user can “cap” the density
so that none exceed 30 lbs. per cubic foot, without changing those which are
less than 30, by clicking on the “magic wand” Replace Data button, with the
cursor on Density, and entering the range from 30 to 999, and then
selecting Density to be replaced with 30.
-
When Auto-Rating a file of shipments outbound from California, if California
intra-state moves will have a different absolute minimum charge than freight
going elsewhere, begin by setting the absolute minimum to the interstate
level for all shipments via the template. Then, with the cursor on
Destination Location, click on the "magic wand" replace data button. Enter
the California ZIP code range in the from and to fields. Then, with the
replace field set to Absolute Minimum Charge, enter the California minimum
in the replacement field. Only shipments with destination ZIP codes in
California will be modified
- In
a file of shipments which are a mixture of loose pieces and palletized
freight, to change only the palletized shipments (packaging code 2) to
unitized (packaging code 1), click on the “magic wand” Replace Data button,
with the cursor on Packaging Code. Enter the range 2 to 2, then
select Packaging Code to be replaced with 1, and only the palletized freight
will be changed.
·
In a file extracted from Traffic/CIS with the tariff revenue breakdown,
the user can change a 50 percent discount to 55, without affecting the shipments
moving under an absolute minimum charge showing no discount, by clicking on the
"magic wand" Replace Data button with the cursor on Discount in the Rate Data
Window. Enter the range 50 to 50, then select Discount to be replaced with 55,
and all shipments with a 50 percent discount will be modified without affecting
the others. (Repeat the step with the cursor on Minimum Charge Discount as
well.)
