The Tariff Revenue field in the CIS Rate Data window can save many calculation steps when manually entering revenue, in situations when auto-rating is not being used or does not apply.
Although the user still has to rate the shipments manually; discounts, accessorials and allowances can be entered separately, utilizing those fields on the CIS template, rather than the user having to manually apply these items to revenue.
Suppose we need to cost a group of shipments under a specific third-party tariff, with a 75 percent discount, $.50 per hundredweight loading allowance and $55 absolute minimum charge. On some of the shipments, there is a $3.00 inside delivery charge.
On the CIS Template for this customer, press F7 or double-click when the cursor is on the Revenue input item. This opens the Rate Data window, containing ten entry items. For this example, complete the items as follows:
| Class | <Enter> |
| Discount | 75 |
| Minimum Charge Discount | 75 |
| Off-Bill Discount | <Enter> |
| Fuel Surcharge | <Enter> |
| Connecting Carrier % | <Enter> |
| Accessorial Revenue | <F4> (to make variable) |
| Absolute Minimum Charge | 55.00 |
| Loading Allowance | 50 |
| Tariff Revenue | <F4> (to make variable) |
Class is only used in auto-rating, but can be entered if you want to label the shipments with their class.
When entering the data for individual elements, the rate window will open in sequence for entry of the accessorial revenue, when applicable, and the tariff revenue. Tariff revenue, for this purpose, is the weight times the rate (including alternation) before any discounts. Enter this in lieu of entering the net revenue.
When the file is costed, the net revenue is calculated and displayed in all output reports.
Not only does this method avoid several data entry calculations, but any analysis to find the impact of changing discounts, changing absolute minimum charges, or changing loading allowances can be accomplished via the template edit mode, rather than having to re-calculate and re-enter net revenue for each shipment.
